Ontario Tech University Chapter

Chapters are the beating heart of EWB. Across Canada chapter members are taking thoughtful and strategic actions to create profound social change in their universities, companies, and communities.

Engineers Without Borders Canada is a movement of professional engineers, students, overseas volunteer staff, and supporters across Canada. Together, we are almost 50,000 strong. We believe that the next generation of rural Africans should have the same opportunities to improve their lives, that we have right here at home.

To help make this a reality, our members and volunteers apply all the creativity, technical skills and problem-solving approach for which engineers are known.

In Africa, our committed and innovative volunteers work in partnership with local organizations and communities – combining our knowledge and experience to find unique solutions and devise innovative ways to apply them. Our work is focused on enabling rural Africans the opportunity to access clean water, generate an income from humble farms, and access critical infrastructure and services.

At home, EWB Ontario Tech is one of 34 professional and student chapters to create lasting change across Canada. We engage Canadians, our government, companies, and universities on a widespread scale, to build their connections to Africa and make choices that better promote and contribute to human development.

Founded in 2000 by George Roter and Parker Mitchell, EWB was created to work both in Africa and Canada to combat global inequality through the engineering profession. We are now 50,000 members strong with 34 professional and student chapters across Canada, directed by a National Office in Toronto. We proudly engage Canadians, our government, companies, and universities to network with Africa, embrace a globally responsible perspective and promote human development.

African Programs:

By narrowing our focus and doing fewer things, we are able to maximize our impact and be more efficient. As a result, we focus on these initiatives:

  • Rural Infrastructure and Agriculture in Ghana
  • Market Access in Zambia
  • Agriculture in Burkina Faso
  • Water Access in Malawi

We partner with governments, development organizations and private enterprises to improve access to clean water, critical infrastructure, increase farmer’s yields, support entrepreneurship and business opportunities in Africa.

United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals:

The campaign for the 2018-2019 Year is to advocate about the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
